What’s to Come…
The future writings of Mrs. Adkins
- A Justification for Using Technology in the Writing Classroom
Many teachers see the use of technology as something that takes away from the time they must spend meeting state standards. In this piece I will argue that using technology to teach writing actually facilitates this process and helps to foster complete literacy among students.
- The Copy Room as a Metaphor for My (Tragically Chaotic) Life
As you all know, I’m often running into class as the bell rings, unsorted, unstapled and poorly copied papers in hand. I always seem to need to make copies jsut when the line is longest or there is no more paper or someone else jammed the machine and left it for me to deal with. It occured to me one day that these events are analagous to my life in general. I intend for this to be a humorous piece, paralleling my copy machine adventures with other events from my crazy life.
- If Life Was One Large PDF File
I love for everything to be neat and orderly, but I rarely achieve this except for on my computer. I have folders within folders within folders, all clearly labeled with the their contents. I’m even moving toward having all of my files saved as PDFs so that they will all look alike. Why is this important? It isn’t. But it makes me feel like I have control over at least a small portion of my world. So I’m thinking…what if I could organize my entire life into a series of neat little file folders containing PDFs? How much calmer would my life become then! The answer, of course, is that it would be crazier as I tried to keep everything all neat and tidy. And what if one file became corrupted?! It’s an interesting though, nonetheless, and I think it could be a neat piece.
- Letters for Avery
Uncategorized | Comment (0)My favorite role in life so far has been that of Mommy. Watching my little peanut grow and learn teaches me so much about life. It’s truly an amazing job. There are so many funny, sweet, and exciting things that Avery does every day, but I am afraid that I will quickly forget the details. So, for this piece I want to write a series of letters to her, about her, and her wonderful childhood. The principle reason we tell stories is to preserve our history, and so I want Avery to know hers.
