my response on healthcare, link to article at the bottom.

President Bush’s new health care plan will provide families with an income tax over $60,00 and their own insurance with $4,500 extra on their income return. This plan has obvious pros and cons. It would somewhat equalize the standard of living between the upper and lower classes of America. People who cannot afford their own insurance should have some form provided for them. Medical expenses in the U.S. continue to rise, making it nearly impossible for the average lower classman to receive a simple check up. Many people avoid getting medical help due to the simple fact that they cannot afford it. Doctors have begun to refuse to treat anyone without insurance, despite how desperate their situation may be. This is all due to certain groups of people who abuse the system and take advantage of pharmaceuticals. The American people need a steady form of healthcare. In this society, there is no way that a lower classman can afford the healthcare they truly need by themselves. The government should be more involved in this problem.

Heh-heh–no. I had to look up a sympathetic character, just to OCD to myself that it was what I thought it was. Brett’s got this horribly convoluted idea of how men ought to be treated and how she ought to be treated by men. Brett is very selfish and really only looks to see what she can glean from her flings with men. She goes from dragging Jake into a half-relationship (and rejecting him for…ahem…reasons) to using and losing Cohn to commenting excessively on Romero’s clothing (which, according to her, fits him like cling-wrap). Essentially, she equates “love” with “sex”–and I’m not sure that she even knows the difference there. Brett drinks out the wazoo and doesn’t do anything productive or useful or good. She just exists, being an unattainable socialite that men drool after.
So–no. To me, Brett Ashley isn’t sympathetic, not even at the end.

NO she is totally ridiculous. Actually I guess so since she is so sad I feel kind of sorry for her. She is totally confused. But I really did not like her character at all.
